After I quit dance school I finished a Bachelor of Music
Who is miss Banana Splits?
I grew up absolutely obsessed with dancing, all things dance. However I am extremely inflexible and did not grow up learning ballet. So neither nature nor nurture were on my side. By nothing short of a miracle I got into dance school - apparently passion was enough to get me in. Two years in I had to quit due to chronic lower back pain (the director of the dance school was an utter nightmare too). Heart broken, I had given up on dancing.
After uni again nothing short of a miracle I got a job as a dancer at Hong Kong Disneyland. Injuries arose all over my body; back, shins, knees, hips you name it. I was still inflexible and in a routine audition I was told I needed to lose weight. I hated my body. Then I realised, I can't hate my body. I'm not doing it any favours by hating on it. I needed to love it and work at it.
I discovered poled dancing with some girl friends and was hooked. I wanted to build muscle. I wanted to stay off my legs to avoid more lower body injury. I had always dreamed of being a gymnast and pole combined dance with acrobatics - how perfect! It hasn't been an easy road. My flexibility holds me back. But I'm determined and in love. So this blog is an overflow; it's a labour of love; it's a documentation of my journey. Come join me!

Our Mission Statement
Here at Miss Banana Splits we recognise the importance of health but we also recognise how it looks different from person to person and how it can be a life long battle to 'get fit'. We aim to be a hub for pole obsessed people to find resources that are going to benefit their skills and inspire them on their journey.
Somedays we just wanna give up and get fat. Other days we nail a trick we've been working on for weeks and get a rush of adrenaline to keep going only to be stopped by an old injury or life commitments that demand your time. We hope that no matter where you are in your pole journey that you can find the inspiration, encouragement and resources you need to keep at it!
